Schwägalp - Tierwis - Säntis

The ascent to the Säntis begins at the Schwägalp valley station. From Gmeinenwisen, the path winds steeply up to the Musfallen rocky bastion. Afterwards, the path continues over a wide grassy and scree band, then you hike along a rock face. Over steps and handholds you reach the traditional mountain inn Tierwis. Hikers who start later in the afternoon can stop here, enjoy a wonderful sunset, and spend the night. In the morning, after breakfast, you continue towards the summit. Follow the markings that lead between funnels and crevices to the foot of the slope below the Girensattel and then onto the ridge itself. You pass the Blauschneelücke and keep to the right. Via the climbing path called the “Himmelsleiter” (Heaven’s Ladder), you reach the goal – the Säntis summit. From here you can take the Säntisbahn cable car back down to the Schwägalp valley station.
