Description

As has been customary for Jakob pilgrims for centuries, we start our Schwabenweg to Einsiedeln before the Konstanz Minster.

The bike path on the main road is mostly separated from car traffic by corresponding ground markings. It is often the medieval pilgrimage path that has since been developed into the main road. In Märstetten there is a Jakob church. Along the way, you come to a farm shop with self-service where you can stock up on fresh products. The farm is probably very modernized but is still called Pilgerhof. Here you will also find more white signs labeled Schwabenweg, although these often point to poorly passable dirt roads. The bike path leads over asphalt roads. The signpost for foot pilgrims leads them between Hünikon and Maltbach via unpaved dirt roads. Bike pilgrims mostly remain on the road until Fischingen, even if the white signs of Schwabenweg suggest the footpath through fields and woods. In Oberwangen you could still make a detour to the Martinskapelle on the left up the hill. The Fischingen monastery, a hotspot for pilgrims, is unmistakable. On the left side of the road stands the impressive baroque church and the adjoining monastery buildings. Formerly an important pilgrim's hostel before crossing the Hörnli, it is now a 3-star seminar hotel.
