Description
Peace instead of hustle and bustle: The Weissenberge are considered the sunny terrace of the Sernftal. During the leisurely circular hike to Schiben you can especially enjoy the silence of nature and the view of the Elmer mountains and the upper Kleintal valley.
After a three-and-a-half-minute ride over steeply falling rocks, the aerial cableway reaches the Weissenberge mountain station – and you are already in a completely different world. The sunny south-facing slope above the Glarus village Matt extends from 1266 m above sea level up to the Gulderstock (2511 m above sea level). In between lies a dreamy landscape and a Walser scattered settlement.
The wide path first passes cozy stables and holiday homes to the Mühlemad campfire site, which invites you to rest with plenty of seating. The hiking trail now passes the Schiben plain and winds down gently in large hairpin bends to the two mountain restaurants Edelwyss and Wirtschaft zum Weissenberg. Here, hikers recharge together on the sunny terrace while the massif of Foostock and Fanenstock rises opposite.
Tip: shorten the hike and take the Sattel circular route (- 0.5 hr).
