Description

High above the valley of the young Aare, this hike runs from Hasliberg to Meiringen. Highlights along the route include the charming clearing of the Riebgarti.

A significant part of this hike runs through forest. Therefore, the route is well suited for midsummer. Between the trees, impressive deep views open repeatedly into the vast valley floor of Innertkirchen and towards Lake Brienz.

The path crosses clearings in the mountain forest several times. One of these islands is the Riebgarti, a landscape gem maintained for centuries. The terrain is marked by steep, rocky slopes and flatter, graceful meadows with solitary trees and groups of trees. The hiking trail crosses it. The farmers of this charming oasis were awarded the 2018 Cultural Landscape Prize of the Oberland-East region.

In wet weather, the section from Hundschüpfi to Bergschwendi is somewhat tricky: the path is quite narrow and partially exposed on the downhill terrain. Over the Bodenfluh, where the highest vineyard in the canton of Bern is located, one descends to Im Obren Wylerli and reaches the valley floor of Meiringen via the old Grimsel path over the Wylerli.
