Description
From the village of San Bernardino you reach the Acubona area and continue towards the Alpe Pian Doss. Shortly before the Alp, on the left, starts the path that in about 2 hours leads to the Bocchetta de Curciusa. This is a route recommended for somewhat experienced hikers, especially regarding the initial stretch leading to the Bocchetta de Curciusa at 2420m; here the slope is quite steep and can pose some difficulties. From the Bocchetta de Curciusa, leaving behind the small lake, you descend into the valley, first reaching Upper Curciusa and then Lower Curciusa, arriving after about 2 hours at the Alp de Rog at 1812m. From the Alp, the path mostly runs parallel to the Areua river, which flows at the valley floor and, exiting the valley, leads in about 1 hour to the small village of Nufenen at 1569m. A reservoir was planned in the Curciusa Valley but was never built. The valley now belongs to the protected areas of the Canton of Grisons.
At Alp de Rog, the hike joins the path coming from San Bernardino via the Strecc de Vignun. As an alternative, you can choose this return route, although it is quite demanding due to the steep ascent to the Strecc de Vignun. Another alternative is to continue via the Areuapass, reach the Alpe Tambo, and then the village of Splügen.
