Description

The hike begins in Samnaun-Compatsch at the late Gothic church of St. Jakobus and initially follows the cultural trail into the Zander Valley. After crossing the border into neighboring Tyrol, the ascent to Fliesseralpe follows, where the alpine pasture invites you to rest. The hike continues over the Flieser Stieralpe to the Matschiberle saddle. Here the view opens up to the Samnaun Valley, towards the Reschen Pass and Ötztal Alps. At Unter Malfrag the national border is crossed again, which you can immediately recognize by the different trail markers (Austria: red-white-red; Switzerland: white-red-white). At Spatlasattel the panorama changes again, this time you look westwards towards the Swiss side of the Silvretta Arena, the Samnaun local mountain Muttler and the Fluchthorn. During the descent to Alp Bella the path passes the round rock formation “by the church”; an impressive geological witness of the folding of the Alps. From Alp Bella the further descent goes to Unteralp, where with the Alpstein lies one of the largest erratic boulders in Switzerland. Leisurely it goes along the Mülbach back to Samnaun-Compatsch.
