Samedan - Alp Muntatsch - Marguns - Celerina

Best Time of Year
Description
The first ascent can be tackled at the upper edge of the village of Samedan (near the shooting range). The wide unpaved road winds its way up the mountain in long hairpin bends, the views between the trees becoming increasingly spectacular. Spotting the odd deer or chamois along the way is not unusual. Once you clear the edge of the forest the wonderful mountain panorama of the Alp Muntatsch opens up before you. The hosts at this alpine hut serve delicious food in the summer. In fact the home-made apple strudel is well known throughout the valley! If you prefer not to stop at the hut, continue up to the saddle to enjoy the views of the Engadine. The single trail beneath Piz Padella is a popular spot for a photo. The descent to Marguns requires a degree of skill and concentration. In fact, it is advisable to dismount for some sections. From Marguns the pace can be increased again, where the tour leads comfortably down to Celerina on the gravel road.
