Description
The municipality of Scuol in the Lower Engadin has a long bathing tradition. Around 20 mineral water springs are said to originate in the area. Various sites of the former and current bathing tourism can be discovered on a circular hike starting at the Scuol train station. The sought-after water was first mentioned as early as the 14th century. The healing springs of Scuol gained Europe-wide fame thanks to the physician Paracelsus. With the construction of the road in the second half of the 19th century, the first heyday of bathing tourism began. From that time come the drinking hall (Büvetta) and the former spa house Bad Tarasp, which can be reached in 20 minutes down at the Inn. The Büvetta is closed due to rockfall danger but can be safely viewed from the opposite bank. With its two angled side wings and the park area, the adjacent spa house has a castle-like character. It is therefore not surprising that many prominent guests from Europe came for spa treatments. The large building offered space for 300 guests.
