Route Piora – Piora

High above the Ticino Leventina Valley stretches the Piora plateau. The journey up is convenient but almost adventurous: you ride a funicular railway that, with a maximum gradient of 87.8%, is one of the steepest publicly accessible mountain railways in the world. On the plateau above, several pretty mountain lakes are scattered – remnants of the last ice age. The largest of these is the blue-green shimmering Ritomsee. It lies about a half-hour walk from the funicular mountain station.
