Description
The Roman Path starts in Näfels and leads to Mollis, whose village character with its manor houses holds national significance. It then proceeds with a moderate ascent along the picturesque path lined with dry stone walls to the hamlet of Beglingen. A look south and west shows the steep and imposing mountain slopes of the Glärnisch massif, as well as the Rautispitz and Wiggis, the local mountains of Näfels and Netstal respectively. To the north, the valley opens up, revealing the view over the Linth plain.
Through the Britterwald forest, the path continues upward along the Roman packhorse and cart path to the ruins of the Roman watchtower and the Römerturm hotel, which invites you to enjoy a meal after the ascent with the best views of the Churfirsten and Walensee.
Now follows indulgent hiking in the form of a high-altitude path: Along dry stone walls and idyllic meadows, the Roman Path leads through Filzbach over the Reutegg (where there is a viewing platform of www.DenkWerkstatt.ch) to Obstalden and on to Walenguflen. On this section, hikers enjoy the magnificent view over the Walensee and the Churfirsten chain, while to their right rises the Mürtschen massif. Another highlight of this route is encountered at the charming Sagenbrücke, which crosses the Meerenbach and initiates the descent towards Mühlehorn. Following the national footpath, one descends through the Vortobel to Mühlehorn station.
