Rifenstein

The start of the Rifenstein trail running is at the valley station of the Reigoldswil-Wasserfallen cable car (LRW). The first section leads back to the Reigoldswil bus terminus, then follow the hiking trail signage eastwards towards Titterten ("legend trail", "Titterten experience trail"). The route initially ascends gently to the left fork, marked "legend trail", steeply up to the Rifenstein castle ruins and from there down to the valley hiking trail, then the trail leads through a wild romantic "canyon" with waterfall up to the Hübschematt amphibian protection area. At the signpost, do not follow the hiking trails but take the footpath southwards uphill to the road (Titterten-Reigoldswil). The running route goes about 200 m on the road past the March bus stop towards Reigoldswil until the junction of a field path parallel to the road on the left side. This path leads the running route briefly back to the road along the forest and from there on a marl-surfaced path, marked as a bike route and later as the Nordc walking route, to Sixfeld (bus stop / connecting road Liedertswil-Reigoldswil). There the signpost indicates the destination Waldweide among others, and this destination is reached after a demanding ascent: initially to the Waldweide mountain restaurant and later to the parking lot and hiking trail signpost Waldweide. This is followed by the technically demanding ascent to Hinteri Egg, the highest mountain in the canton Basel-Landschaft (1168 m) and on to Chellenchöpfli (canton Solothurn). The view of the Alps and the elevations of the Jura chain is overwhelming. From Chellenchöpfli the trail running route runs along the mountain ridge towards Rochus Chapel / Vogelberg / Passwang. The "finale" leads steeply down to the LRW mountain station from Rochus Chapel. The descent in the LRW gondola rewards the runner for the performance accomplished. Alternatives to the gondola descent are continuing the run via the hunter's path or down via the scooter route to the LRW valley station.
