Description

The hike starts at the deserted station of Riedtwil, which can be easily reached by bus from Wynigen or Herzogenbuchsee. From there, follow the road towards the town center and turn right at the signpost "Riedtwil" into Oschwandstrasse. The sign indicates the waterfall with a walking time of "30 minutes" – and indeed, the impressive Mutzbachfall is quickly reached. The path follows the Mutzbach, passing a biotope and the rest and barbecue area "Mutzgraben" and runs partly on the Amiet-Hesse-Weg. This art and culture path was established in honor of the painters Cuno Amiet and Bruno Hesse, who lived and worked here. Along the path, information panels explain places that inspired their art.

The Mutzbachfall, 14 meters high, plunges over a sandstone wall into a forest-surrounded basin. The waterfall is particularly impressive in spring when the stream carries a lot of water. The hiking trail leads over wooden steps and a short metal ladder that winds up to the left of the waterfall. From there, you have a spectacular view of the fall and then continue above the Mutzbach through the forest. Shortly afterwards, you cross the stream on a metal bridge and follow the path to the signpost "Mutzgraben". While the Amiet-Hesse-Weg leads left towards Oschwand, you slowly continue ascending to Rüedisbach, from where there is a magnificent panoramic view. Even after the village, near Hinter Leggiswil, a beautiful view of the Jura beckons. The crowning finale is the descent to Wynigen, from where there is even a magnificent view of the Alps.
