Ridges above the Rotbach valley

Description
Good hiking is possible between Bühler and Gais. However, the direct path is not the goal. The suggested route leads south of the village Bühler up to Saul and from there over Brenden down to Zweibrücken. The return goes on the northern ridge. Expansive views are guaranteed. And now, in late summer, also a rich bloom of flowers and wild berries. The municipality of Bühler lies at 826 meters above sea level nestled in the Rotbach valley. Industry and commerce have shaped the village since ever – especially the textile industry with its heyday in the 19th century when fifteen manufacturers and 236 weavers were counted in the municipal area. Bleacheries, twisteries, spinneries, and dyeworks were located along the Rotbach – they used the water power. From Gais to Bühler there were seven textile factories. The tall chimneys are still witnesses from this time seen today; in Zweibrücken, in Gais (Lochmühle), and in the Strahlholz in Bühler.
