Description

Starting from Kreuzlingen, the route leads via Gottlieben and Ermatingen through the charming landscape along the elongated Untersee, which already attracted Napoleon III, the last Emperor of France. A detour to the slightly elevated Arenenberg is worthwhile not only because of the Napoleon Museum, the original setting of the Bonaparte family's life. Also, the breathtaking view offered there and the splendid, historically and modernly designed gardens are ideal for a short break.

The route continues via Steckborn and Mammern, both places located directly and beautifully on the Untersee, to the well-known and richly decorated town of Stein am Rhein, which attracts thousands of tourists annually. Finally, the route always follows the northern shore of the High Rhine, first to Diessenhofen, whose medieval townscape has been well preserved to this day, and finally to the stage destination of Schaffhausen.
