Description
The natural monument Ruinaulta is also called the "Swiss Grand Canyon." This label is certainly deserved, as the walls of up to 300 meters made of rockslide breccia give the roughly 11,000-year-old gorge in the Flims rockslide deposit area an imposing appearance. There are various possibilities to explore this dreamlike landscape.
From Ilanz, the well-developed romantic hiking trail runs alongside the Vorderrhein to Castrisch, through a wetland of national importance and along the Rhine into the heart of the gorge at Versam Station. Further wetlands of national importance follow, as well as crossing the Chli Isla at Chrummwag. After crossing the Rhine on the RhB bridge, you hike through spruce and heath pine forest steeply up to the Ransun plateau, then take a forest road and a hiking trail up to Conn. Very close by, the "Il Spir" viewpoint can be climbed to admire the Rhine Gorge from above. At the top of the rockslide mass, we follow the well-marked path through the large forest over Mutta Sura, with views of Lake Cauma, and continue to Staderas to the PostBus stop.
Note(s) The section from the bridge at Valendas-Sagogn station to Conn corresponds to the Staderas-Conn-Rhine Gorge Ruinaulta route, but in reverse direction.
