Description
This hike, which is a journey through time, starts from Lavertezzo, known for the two-arched bridge "Ponte dei Salti" and accessible by car or bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno line). Ascending, you soon reach Sambugaro, a small village. The route continues along ancient paths that were used in summer to bring livestock to pasture on the alp.
The route always climbs through a chestnut forest, on stone steps, past ancient ruins. At Revöira, you can see the first basins (35 in total, capacity about 4800 liters), which served as reservoirs for collecting rainwater. The groundwater was channeled into a cistern through an ingenious system of basins.
Continuing towards Casa di Dentro, you encounter several remains of the ancient water system. Descending, you cross the "Piantagione dei Valdell" (protected area) above Motta. Back down in the valley, you follow the course of the green river back to Lavertezzo (picnic chalet at Piano).
