Description

From grey to blue: For those caught by the Mittelland blues and wanting to catch some sun again, this winter circular hike is a good choice. It begins either at the post bus stop “Gurnigel, Berghaus” or “Gurnigel, Wasserscheide.” The prepared winter hiking trail runs at an altitude between 1511 and 1660 meters above sea level. Along the way, you enjoy a beautiful view of the distinctive peaks of the Gantrisch range: these are Nünenenflue, Gantrisch, Bürglen, and Ochsen. Because there are some steeper sections to manage and icy spots may occur, shoes with good grip and poles are advantageous.

Thanks to its short length, this winter hike is especially suitable for families with children. And if the route becomes too long or interest in winter hiking wanes, the route can be shortened: instead of a circular hike, in this case you undertake a point-to-point hike from “Gurnigel, Berghaus” to “Gurnigel, Wasserscheide” or vice versa. Nearby is also the post bus stop “Gurnigel, Stierehütte,” from which you can also begin the return journey. Alternatively, after a break at the mountain inn Selibühl or at the ski lift hut Gurnigel (about 5 to 10 minutes walking distance from the winter trail), you can regain strength for further hiking. If you take a sled with you, going downhill is easier.

One final tip: the Gantrisch region offers a good winter sports alternative to the Bernese Oberland because it can be reached more quickly depending on your place of residence. Since this has now become well known, many excursionists are out especially on weekend afternoons. Those who want to enjoy the beautiful nature and landscape undisturbed should therefore get up early or go out on a weekday.
