Description
The best way to reach the Umbrail Pass is by post bus, but the 1125-meter altitude ascent can also be managed on the pass road under your own power. The challenging ascent phase only begins after the pass height. On a single trail, you push and carry the bike for 500 vertical meters up to Piz Umbrail at 3033 meters above sea level. The ascent is strenuous but worth it.
The descent to Lai da Rims is a high alpine super fun, the trail winds well rideable through the rugged mountain world. After the Rims lake, the route is a bit more technical, peppered with many switchbacks but still good and fun to ride. Eventually, you reach the stream in Val Vau, over 1000 vertical meters have already been descended, and many know the approaching final section from tours to the well-known Val Mora. After some initial trails serving as shortcuts to the gravel road, you follow this to a mountain ridge, where the trail then leads down to the edge of the village of Sta. Maria through the dense forest on the right.
