Description

We reach the Vadret d’Err via a steep step (beware of crevasses especially in winters with little snow). We cross the glacier and reach an adjacent glacier basin via a rock ridge.

Only now can we see the last part of the ascent. The east flank of the Piz D’Err is broad at the bottom and narrows upwards into a narrow gully. Our ascent on skis ends at a col.

In the best case, we can ski down 1,800 meters continuously to Sur via the south side of the Piz D’Err.

To enter the south flank, we must first retrace part of the ascent. We descend to the col, ski down the east flank, and traverse far to the right before it flattens.

Here a col offers passage to the Julier Pass to the south. Since the Piz Calderas still casts its shadow over the slope below the col at noon, the snow softens here very late. However, there is a good alternative route by climbing a section back up along the ridge towards the Piz D’Err.

From there we can enter the south flank more directly and higher up. The flank is about 45° steep at the entrance.
