Panorama loop around Cholfirst

While today’s observation towers are mostly built for tourist purposes, strategic aspects were more decisive in the seventeenth century, marked by numerous crises. Thus, the canton of Zurich had a network of 23 Hochwachten built, which were in good visual contact with each other. In a very short time, they could transmit information over longer distances quickly by smoke signals. The Hochwacht Wildensbuch was already documented in 1660. Only after 1815 did the Zurich Hochwachten gradually lose their function. The current observation tower was inaugurated on May 1, 2010.

The Antennenturm refers to the Cholfirst transmission tower.

The third in the group is the Uhwieser Hörnliturm, newly built in 2021, prominently visible above the former quarry.
