Description
The journey starting from Signau is already worthwhile, as you pass over or alongside several wooden bridges. Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga is a native of Eggiwil and Lugano. At the starting point of the hike, follow the signpost Chapfschwand. Shortly after the wooden bridge over the Rötebach, the route branches off to the left and ascends alternately through forest and pastures, on paved roads and on paths up to Gätzistil. It continues without major elevation changes up to Chapfschwand. To reduce the proportion of paved sections, the route partly runs in the pasture next to the road. At Chapfschwand, the further ascent to Chapf follows, again alternately through forest, along the forest edge, or over pastures. It is worth stopping occasionally to enjoy the view from the Schrattenfluh over the Alps to the Stockhorn range. From the signpost location Chapfwacht, it goes downhill towards Höhi Signau to Junkholz. There is a barbecue area here for resting. The signpost shows the further course of the hike: via Holzmatt to Eggiwil. Downhill through forest, pastures, and farm roads, you reach the Emme valley floor at Holzmatt. It goes back to Eggiwil without noticeable elevation difference.
