Description
From Wabern or Kehrsatz take the post bus to the Zimmerwald church stop. Now walk back 200 m and ascend towards Obermuhlern. Shortly after you reach the wonderfully situated observatory of the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern. Continue to the idyllic Obermuhlern and over well-maintained fields to Niedermuhlern. From Niedermuhlern, continue ascending towards Bütschelegg. First a stretch on hard pavement, then through forest to the unique viewpoint Bütschelegg. The well-known excursion restaurant invites you to a well-deserved rest. Now descend to Oberbütschel, where you already have the option to take the post bus homewards. Continue towards Rüeggisberg in the direction of Tannwald – Riggisberg. In the dense Tannwald, pay close attention to the often somewhat hidden rhombuses and trail markers. At the Tannwald location (956 m), branch off towards Rüeggisberg. Via Mättwil along the hillside, you soon reach the pretty Rüeggisberg, situated on a viewing terrace. The village is a place of power and a station on the long Jakobsweg. A visit to the ruins of the former Cluniac monastery dating from the 11th century is a must. Theatre performances, exhibitions and other events take place in the ruins. On the comfortable return trip by post bus, you can already recover somewhat from the effort. Walter Gerber
