Description
At the road bend south of the town center of Orvin stand the so-called Maisons des Sarrasins, supposedly the oldest houses in the village spared from the 1724 fire. The village with typical Jura houses, beautiful fountains (19th century), pretty tavern signs, and the proud church (1722) is worth seeing. From the town center uphill to the Jura ridge trail and then following it first below, then above the road across mountain pastures to Les Prés-d’Orvin. Shortly after the Bellevue bus stop, a wide farm road branches off to the left from the road and leads in large loops up to the farm Noire Combe. Through a pasture hollow you reach briefly at Bergerie du Bas the dip between the two Mont Sujet peaks, which also bears the name Noire Combe. Passing Bergerie du Haut, you ascend on an indistinct path directly to the highest point of the west peak of Mont Sujet. The panoramic view can hold its own compared to that from the Chasseral: Jura edge lakes, the Mittelland, the pre-Alps, and high Alps show themselves from their best side. The descent heads southwest to the Combe Robin farm. Over a somewhat rough forest path, it goes down to La Rochalle, where you first follow a small road towards Diesse, but then turn west over a wooded pasture and through an alley into the well-preserved village of Nods.
