Description

The route starts at Lake Constance in Arbon. At the Möhl Juice and Distillery Museum, you can discover the art of sweet cider production. Near Roggwil, you pedal along a green hill ridge past the mighty bergfried of Mammertshofen.

From Wittenbach to the Abbey District of St.Gallen, you use a main road and pass through a busy suburban corridor to arrive at Herisau, the village-like main town of Appenzell Ausserrhoden.

Now the hilly foothills of the Säntis must be conquered, a green landscape with scattered farmhouses. Dairy and fruit farming dominate, and the route is characterized by apple and pear trees. Up to Schwellbrunn you climb to 1000 m, then down again into the deep, rugged necker ravine (750m). The second climb above 1000 m is rewarded at the top of the hill crest with the pretty houses of Hemberg and a panoramic view to the Säntis and the Toggenburg.
