Description

Thanks to the funicular opened in 1899, once one of the fastest of its kind, Gurten is easily accessible. What many hikers do not know: Gurten lies in the municipality of Köniz and not within the city of Bern.

At the mountain station you follow the route towards Spiegel/Wabern and thus circle the Westsignal. Along the forest edge you continue past the playground and the Eastsignal. Here the hikers descend towards Studholz and then descend to the hamlet of Gurtendorf. This hamlet is appealing due to its well-preserved village character.

Now you ascend again to the Eastsignal, where benches invite you to rest and enjoy the panorama from the federal city to the Alps. From here to the end of the hike is only a short distance. Those who want to go even higher can climb the observation tower and be rewarded with a panoramic view. However, the children's playground with the Liliput railway also invites visitors to linger. Gurten park offers a diverse cultural program that may also interest hikers. Every July, the four-day Gurtenfestival takes place, where you will not find peace and quiet.
