Description

On this section of the wild High Rhine we explore its last still preserved rapid: "Ettikoner Lauffen" is its name on the German side, "Koblenzer Laufen" in Switzerland. Both riparian states strive to preserve the still intact floodplains of the Rhine side arms. The heart of the floodplain protection park in the canton of Aargau is formed by the renatured Chly Rhy floodplain in 2014/2015. A newly built observation platform and a former bunker integrated into nature allow views of the floodplain away from the accessible paths.

Also worth seeing is the Verenamünster in Bad Zurzach, one of the most beautiful churches in the canton of Aargau with the Verena grave in the Gothic crypt. Since the 5th century, St. Verena has been venerated in Zurzach. She performed numerous miracles in helping the poor and caring for the sick with the healing water of a spring. A church was built over her grave in a Roman grave field, the predecessor building of the Verenamünster.
