Description

The start of the o-tour Bike West is at Alpnachstad station, where the steepest cogwheel railway in the world to Pilatus and the shipping pier to Lake Lucerne are located. After a leisurely beginning along the valley floor past Wichelsee to Sarnen, the ascent leads via the Langis-Bikesteil route into the Glaubenberg area. Through the largest moorland in Switzerland, the route continues via Schlierental and over the Alp Horweli to the highest point Schrotenegg. Soon the first singletrail begins, descending over alpine pasture towards Lütholdsmatt. Here the Franzosenweg starts. About five kilometers of singletrail down to the valley. Those who prefer a more relaxed ride can take the paved mountain road down towards Alpnach. The route offers everything a biker's heart desires: steep climbs, natural roads, singletrails, great views, and unique landscapes. Along the route, there are also some mountain restaurants. The o-tour Bike West was created through the annual event o-tour Bike Marathon Obwalden, which takes place each September. The race route passes through the same areas but is only partially identical to the o-tour Bike West route.
