Niederurnertäli Trail

Description
With the Niederurnen-Morgenholz cable car you easily reach Morgenholz, where the sculpture trail starts right at the mountain station. Shortly after, at the Baselbieter holiday home, you can put on your snowshoes. From there it goes through beautiful landscapes, up and down, more and more into the small valley, which repeatedly seems Nordic. After the Hirzli restaurant, the route goes steeper uphill for a stretch. The ascent is worth it because in sunny weather you immerse yourself in the sun in the area below Vorder- and Ober Planggen. A very attractive section of the route!
Again and again you encounter the snow-covered wooden sculptures made by local wood sculptor Thomas Jud. And again and again there are wonderful views of the Glarus Alps and towards Lake Walen until the Churfirsten.
At the blockhouse in Mettmen, you reach the northernmost point. There you can take a good break sitting under a roof. The log cabin is by the way the first overnight place on the stages of the long-distance hiking trail Via Glaralpina (www.viaglaralpina.ch). In summer there is, apart from other animal sculptures, also a new adventure playground and several fire pits.
Via a worthwhile loop you reach a little later the groomed winter hiking trail, which then leads back towards Bodenberg where you can warm up and regain strength in the mountain restaurant Hirzli (attention to opening hours as it is not always open). From there you can choose whether to follow the outward route or the road back to the mountain station of the cable car.
