Description

The medium route of the National Hiking Day 2026 begins in the village of Gstaad and initially heads towards Oberbort. On pleasant paths, you walk past elegant Gstaad chalets and enjoy beautiful views back towards the village and the valley. Soon you leave Gstaad behind and tackle the ascent into the Turbach Valley – this section is quite steep and ensures you get moving without being too demanding.

Upon arrival in the idyllic Turbach Valley, one of the quieter side valleys of the region opens up, characterized by wide meadows, scattered farms, and gentle slopes. The route runs varied through the open landscape, with only a few shaded wooded sections. Afterwards, the path leads downhill on a road back towards the valley floor and the Turbach. After crossing to the other side of the valley, you walk leisurely back towards Gstaad. Along the way, you pass the valley station of the Wasserngratbahn, where there is a beautiful view of both the surrounding mountain world and down to Gstaad.

A special highlight is the stop at the Gstaad cheese grotto with the distinctive XXL fondue caquelon. Afterwards, the path leads down to the valley floor and along the Louibach back to the promenade of Gstaad, where the hike concludes on an atmospheric note.
