Description
Only five minutes after the start, the path leads through the Wolfstobel. This former church path brought churchgoers to the service in the church in Lipperswil 200 years ago. This church was in 1664 the starting point for the Wigoltinger trade, which cost two Wigoltingers their heads and nearly led to a civil war in the old Swiss Confederation.
The section from Ifang to Fischbach is signposted as a pilgrimage path. This path was not exclusively used by pilgrims but was a thoroughfare. Pilgrim seals and buttons from Napoleonic uniforms have been found on this path. Even a copper coin from Augsburg was found, which may have belonged to Louis Napoleon, who completed his middle school education in Augsburg and could have lost it during a wild ride over the Seerücken.
The Napoleonturm, built in 2017, stands almost at the site of the historic Belvédère viewing tower, which Louis Napoléon built together with Charles Parquin as a "pleasure building." Louis Napoléon, the later Emperor Napoleon III, spent his adolescence at Arenenberg.
After two hours of hiking, thirst can be quenched with a Napoléon beer at the Alpenblick restaurant in Gunterswilen. The restaurant is closed on weekends.
At the grill area in Äglisholz in front of Hattenhausen, you can grill your own Cervelat from your backpack. Dry firewood is provided there.
