Description

The first stage is mostly flat and starts in Langenthal. Over meadows and forests, you will soon see the Cistercian monastery St. Urban. A visit to the church with its famous choir stalls is definitely worthwhile. The route continues along the Rot river to the national heritage site, the Wässermatten. A definite highlight is the Grünenberg castle ruins in Melchnau, from which the path leads over the high plateau of Goniswil. From here you have a choice: the Border Path route 65 leads you to the official end of the first stage. Ending in the hilly village of Ufhusen is also possible. Both options can be found in the route description below.
