Description
The route starts at the back of Frauenfeld station, where the addition "Murgweg" on the hiking trail signage can be followed throughout the hike. The path first passes Frauenfeld Castle, crosses the Badisteg bridge, and then runs along the Murg to the Königswuhr barrage, where the river was already dammed and its water power used in the Middle Ages. The Murgweg leaves Frauenfeld at the Aumühle; until then, the river is crossed four times on footbridges.
Later comes Murkart, before the path runs between the tamed river with thresholds and a canal through a riparian forest. After another riverbank crossing, you finally reach Matzingen and—never far from the Murg—Wängi. Two small ponds and the hamlet of Rosental follow before reaching Münchwilen.
Now the path leaves the river towards Wil. Along the way, it passes the pilgrimage chapel of Maria Dreibrunnen, known for its ceiling frescoes. It is now not far to the abbey town.
