Mountain air and lake air - Heiden

This time the backdrop is not the Alpstein, but Lake Constance. Nevertheless, there are several hills and valleys to cross on the hike between Heiden and Wartensee. The sound of the Mattenbach rushing and the rattling of the Rorschach-Heiden mountain railway accompany you acoustically.

Lake air ensures a mild climate in the Appenzeller Vorderland, and mountain air brings good health to the inhabitants. This is why grapes grow in Wienacht-Tobel, from which flavorful wines can be made. And it has been known since the 19th century that Heiden, at 800 meters above sea level, is an excellent place for cures. Although the times are over when wealthy guests from all over Europe gathered in the spa hotels for recovery including whey cures, the splendor of the Biedermeier period is still visible on many houses. When walking through the village, it is worth taking a close look.
