Description
We start the hike at Rothenthurm station. From there we walk into the village and immediately to the first highlight. The path leads through the arch of the red tower, the namesake of Rothenthurm. Then the trail crosses the main road and goes over the tracks. We slowly leave the village behind and the view opens up to the moor. At the Rothenthurm ARA the path briefly follows the asphalt road and after crossing the bridge, you have to be careful not to miss the turnoff to the left. Now the path ascends and we walk up a meadow in a zig-zag. At the top, a welcoming fireplace and a great view over the raised bog await us.
After a short break we continue uphill on a gravel road. After the "Chli Morgarten" stable, we keep left towards the forest. Soon the coolness and silence of the forest greets us. Wonderful how the path winds through the tall trees. We leave the forest, cross a meadow briefly and then the view almost takes our breath away. In good visibility, you can see from Säntis over the Glarus, Schwyz, to the Bernese Alps. Simply wonderful.
The descent leads over meadows to an asphalt road. Here it is advisable to take poles, as the path is partly a bit steeper. After a few meters we leave the asphalt road again and turn left to walk on the hiking trail to Biberegg.
In Biberegg you can choose to return to the village on the paved road, by train, or via a beautiful hiking trail. We decide on the hiking trail. First we cross the heavily trafficked main road over a bridge. The road climbs gently for about 500m. Shortly after the base station of the Neusell ski lift, we turn left onto a gravel path and follow the hiking trail signs. The path is very varied and nice to walk. Along the way, the view falls to Rothenthurm with the large, striking church. Soon we are back in Rothenthurm and a beautiful, varied and impressive hike comes to an end.
