Description
This challenging route, renewed a few years ago, starts at Monti di Motti. This popular spot can be reached by car from Cugnasco via a winding forest road. After about 10 minutes on the paved road, the mountain trail marked red-white-red towards Alpe Fopiàna is reached. The trail ascends gently through the beech forest to the alpine pasture, where it enters a dense spruce forest. It then climbs in zig-zags up to the dry stone wall "Wall of the Poles." The wall was probably built around 1940 by Polish internees. The ascent to the summit is marked white-blue-white and passes over a wooden walkway that winds along the rock with some difficult sections secured by ropes. We return along the same path on the mountain trail marked white-red-white, which now descends towards Gana. From there, we take the paved road back to Monti di Motti, where we can stop at the eponymous restaurant.
Those who want to avoid the long return on the paved road can return along the same ascent route.
