Description
The circular hike starts at the final stop of the Escholzmatt – Kemmeriboden bus line. The Küblisbühl indication on the signpost gives the general direction upstream along the Emme. After just a few steps, turn left onto the footpath along the Emme. This section is called the Bank Secret Trail, as anecdotes about Kemmeriboden and Schangnau are told at the benches. After a paved section, the Sculpture Trail, named for the figures made of wood and other materials, branches off to the left. A new suspension bridge, the Sculpture Bridge, crosses the Emme and the Bern – Lucerne canton border in the Chüblisbüelbode. Shortly after, near Küblisbühl, there is a short ascent via the road. At the crossroads, a short detour to the Devil’s Bridge at the parking lot near Hinter Schönisei is worth it. The suspension bridge, along with the Sculpture Bridge, was newly built in spring 2025. A severe storm in 2022 completely destroyed the existing footbridges and subsequently also devastated the Kemmeriboden pool.
From the Devil’s Bridge, go back a short distance and then right over the road up to the Blockhouse and Vorder Schönisei farm. The Blockhouse entices with a café and drinks for a short rest. Shortly after the Vorder Schönisei farm, keep left towards Salwideli. After the bridge over the Schöniseibach, an alpine path leads around the Chüblisbüel hill. A high-voltage line confirms you are on the right path. At an alpine hut, the signpost shows the destination Kemmeriboden Bad. A footbridge crosses the Bärselbach. Now keep left and go downhill. Shortly before the single farm Undere Hirschwängiberg, you unknowingly cross the cantonal border. Here the alpine path turns into a road. Finally, the large wooden bridge leads back to the hiking destination. Before the return trip, do not miss enjoying the legendary Kemmeriboden Merängge. The recipe remains a well-kept secret.
