Description
From the mountain station, the path leads down to Melchsee and in gentle ups and downs to Blausee, located in the midst of a rich alpine flora. From there it goes somewhat steeper up to Abgschütz, the distinctive passage both to Älggi in the small Melchtal and to the Bernese Haslital. Here is an octagonal shelter that is not staffed. It was rebuilt for the 100th anniversary of SAC Engelberg after the Grassen Biwak and set up in 2013 by the Steinmanndli Club Sachseln in the remote area as weather protection for mountain hikers.
From Abgschütz the mountain path climbs steeply over the ridge up to Hochstollen, where a fantastic panoramic view from Titlis to the Wetterhorn and deep into the valleys is offered. Then it initially goes somewhat exposed over cliffs and then down the Hochsträss railing ridge, where one descends eastwards over Hääggen to the Mägisalp station. From there the gondola goes to Meiringen and the Zentralbahn back to the starting point.
