Description

The municipality of Rüschegg has a distinctly rural character: agriculture, livestock farming and above all extensive forests shape the face of the hilly landscape between Schwarzenburg and the Gantrisch mountain range. From the Rüschegg/Heubach bus stop, take a few steps to the road junction and then a short distance back towards Schwarzenburg to the bridge over the Schwarzwasser. Turn right there. Soon a narrow path leads away from the little road and upwards through the Längney forest.

Along the way, beautiful views of the Gibelegg on the opposite valley side. In a gentle but continuous ascent, you reach Stigmoos and Habstanne (where there is another picnic area with a covered shelter) to the Wissebach. The wild stream is crossed via a ford. Caution: If it is in flood, this spot cannot be crossed. In the forest-permeated alpine pastures of the Eywald area, instead of remote farmsteads, you now find a remarkable holiday village ideal for family vacations in a quiet pre-Alpine location. The forest clearings offer beautiful views to the Gantrisch mountain range and the Jura. On the descent along an old cattle trail through the Eywald, you can see the church of Rüschegg on the opposite slope. In the Ey valley bottom, the wide gravel bed of the young Schwarzwasser is crossed by an impressive bridge, and soon you reach the starting point Rüschegg/Heubach again.
