Description
At the most famous geological outcrop in Switzerland at Lochsite, 250-300 million-year-old Verrucano rocks lie above younger, 35-50 million-year-old flysch rocks. Scientists from around the world have been researching this cliff for 200 years. The findings gained at this location have revolutionized the understanding of mountain formation. In particular, it was recognized how mountains are formed by thrust faults. Previously, geoscientists had assumed that mountains formed due to the shrinking of the earth in connection with its cooling.
With the help of information boards and presentations at Lochsite, you become a scientist yourself.
After visiting Lochsite, it is clear to everyone: The "Alpine folding" does not exist!
