Description
From Locarno, the route runs slightly above Lake Maggiore passing through Tenero and Gordola. The steepest part of the route is right at the start. The road flattens again at the large hairpin bends before the famous Verzasca dam and then steadily climbs until km 23, where it becomes a little steeper again up to Brione. The remaining 9 km are again a steady climb (about 3% incline). The Verzasca Valley is a scenic and cultural gem that attracts many visitors. There is therefore a lot to see along the route and several restaurants to enjoy the region's typical cuisine. Due to the busy road and numerous tunnels (some unlit), lights are mandatory for all bicycles!
