Description

The hike starts in Langenbruck and steadily ascends via the mountain inn Dürstel to the Bölcheflue. The view from the Bölcheflue is impressive, and in clear weather, the Alps seem within reach.  Along the trail between Bölcheflue and Lauchflue, twelve information boards explain to visitors the history and significance of the Hauenstein fortification and provide an insight into the time of the First World War in Switzerland as well as its impact on society at that time. Wonderful views (including the impressive Ankenballen rocks) await hikers along the way.

The trail section between Lauchfluh - Gerstelfluh and the ruins of Waldenburg Castle is classified as a mountain trail. There are exposed sections and especially in wet weather, the path must be approached with caution. Good hiking shoes and hiking poles are recommended.

The ruins of Waldenburg Castle are located on the narrow rock ridge Rehhag and are thus strategically well placed above the pass road over the upper Hauenstein. The remains of the castle are accessible at any time. It is a picturesque ruin on a rugged rock ridge. The climb up the tower is definitely worth it! From here, the powerful counts of Frohburg controlled the Upper Hauenstein Pass and the ore fields. Even 1000 years ago, location was everything.
