Description
Where does the Rhine actually flow into Lake Constance? This route from St.Gallen offers an answer to this question and much more. You start in the Abbey District in St.Gallen, very close to the imposing baroque cathedral. The city briefly serves as a beautiful backdrop, and you now head towards Lake Constance.
Just before you arrive, you pass another eye-catcher: the Goldach Viaduct with its impressive arches. In Rorschach, you reach Lake Constance and cycle for a while close to the shore with a view of the wide blue. As soon as you leave Lake Constance, the Old Rhine is directly at your side.
Now you cycle through the Rhine Delta – a nature reserve with floodplain forests, wet and meadow areas, and numerous birds. Some water buffalo also graze in the delta. Near Fussach, you reach Lake Constance again, and this time also the Rhine. With the river to your left, you head inland. Near St.Margrethen, you can make a detour to the Bruggerhorn lido. In Altstätten, you finally take a train back to St.Gallen.
