Description
Starting from the village of Rossa in Val Calanca, near the historic parish church of San Bernardo, the trail begins to ascend into a lush conifer forest. As you approach Alp de Calvaresc Sott, the vegetation thins out and gives way to vast green meadows. From here, it is possible to continue along the Sentee de Buffalora, which leads to Capanna Buffalora, the only alpine hut in Val Calanca managed during the summer. The path continues on the Sentiero Alpino Calanca, ascending towards Alp de Calvaresc Sora at 2131 meters, from where a magnificent panorama of the surrounding peaks opens up. Shortly after, you reach Lagh de Calvaresc, also known as "the heart-shaped lake" due to its peculiar shape. After passing the lake, the ascent continues to Bocchetta di Calvaresc, where the route becomes more challenging and runs along the exposed mountain slopes. From here, the trail descends slightly and continues with continuous ups and downs until reaching Piz de Ganan at 2412 meters. The route continues through a harsh and vegetation-free mountain landscape leading to Rifugio Ganan, located at the center of the Ganan stone basin. The path then bypasses Piz Largè, until reaching Bocchetta di Büscenel at 2157 meters, where it intersects again with the Sentiero Alpino Calanca. From here, Valbella can be seen in the distance. The descent continues along Val Largè, crossing an area covered with rhododendrons and passing by the isolated cabin Cascinot at 1614 meters, where there is also a fountain. Continuing the descent, the Calancasca stream is crossed and finally Valbella is reached, from where it is possible to return to Rossa following the asphalt road.
