Description

This is an after-work ride, a family outing, or simply a small and fine bike ride to the young Rhine. This route can be ridden from early spring to late autumn – often also in winter.

From the Ilanz train station, the first town on the young Rhine, the bike route leads over the meadows and fields above Castrisch. Simple gravel roads and short, smoothly rideable single trails lead you towards the Rhine. Under the railway line and further along a short section of hiking trail along the Rhine to Isla Sut (nature reserve) at the entrance to the Rhine Gorge. There is a fire pit and a surprisingly large sandy beach right at the water. When resting on the peninsula on the Rhine bank, the picnic tastes especially good. Refreshed, the route goes a little uphill to Castrisch. The historic village center with the typical fountain is under heritage protection and worth a stop. In the church attic lives a protected colony of bats.

The ride out on field paths and a short final piece of easy single trail perfectly round off this route.
