Description

The starting point is the valley station of the air cableway Sali - Glattalp. Initially, the path runs along the natural road towards Ruosalp. At the bridge over the Gwalpetenbach, the marked path leaves the road southwards and reaches the flat alpine pasture of Gwalpeten via a steep slope. Cross this to reach the steep “Chälä” (couloir) of the Bockalpeli in the eastward adjacent slopes. You leave the pasture area and climb up into the bizarre karst formations washed out by water. From Firner Loch, a steep, marked path leads down to Urner Boden. To the north lies an unreal-looking sea of rocks before you. As with a captain at sea, it is important to navigate carefully here as the markings on the relatively flat Mären plateau can quickly disappear! At the summit cross of the Mären, enjoy one of the most breathtaking viewpoints of the valley. Now the path winds steeply and often over snowfields through the Inner Brüelchälen down to Schafboden. The next target, the welcoming mountain inn Glattalp or the cozy Glattalphütte of the SAC, is reached soon. If the steep ascents and descents of the route have worn your legs too much, use the air cableway for the return. However, the descent on foot also has its charm and is rewarded with the best Muotathal spring water à discretion from the rock spring Märenbrunnen. The hairpin bends down to Sali are easy to manage and offer a wonderful view of the Waldibach waterfall.
