Description
Welcome to the Interregio Hiking Trail! Together we explore the tri-border region between Switzerland, France, and Germany and discover a fascinating and varied piece of Europe! The three large hiking clubs of the region, the hiking paths of both Basels, the Vosges Club and the Black Forest Club, have jointly maintained this cross-border path since the 1980s, which has now been revised and newly marked to invite you to discover the tri-border region!
On the fifth stage, we cross the High Rhine, which connects the two towns of Rheinfelden on the German and Swiss sides. Worth seeing alongside the historic old town is also the "castle" of the Feldschlösschen Brewery, the largest in Switzerland. Over the "Berg" we hike to the Olsberg Abbey in the eponymous municipality in the canton of Aargau. Founded in 1236, it is the oldest Cistercian nunnery in Switzerland and today is a school home for children with learning difficulties. To the south, Olsberg borders the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Blooming cherry trees adorn the landscape near Hersberg in April. Then we climb the Schleifenberg in the Basel Jura. The Liestal lookout tower at 633 m above sea level offers for a 50-rappen fee a splendid panoramic view from the Black Forest to the Alps. At the foot of the tower, a tavern and a barbecue area invite you to rest. With splendid views, we continue hiking over the Roti Flue to Liestal (320 m above sea level). At the end of the stage, a historic circular tour through the worth-seeing old town of Liestal is recommended.
