Description

Hard to believe: Except for about one kilometer, this hike lies within the municipality of Grindelwald. Could this be the reason why two different bus lines run from Grindelwald and Meiringen to Schwarzwaldalp, the stop closest to the municipal boundary? And the second surprise: Schwarzwaldalp is on the territory of the municipality of Meiringen and does not belong, as one might suspect, to Schattenhalb. Hikers are probably more interested in the surprises along the way. First, there is the silence in the first part of the hike, the ascent to Oberläger. At the starting point, follow the signpost to Oberläger. After a short section with hard surface, there is an idyllic ascent through forest and meadows along a mountain stream. Now and then you should turn your gaze to the Wellhorn, pure hiking wellness. During the ascent, a mountain peak with firn gradually appears, you can guess which mountain it is. On the ridge between Scheidegg Oberläger and the Grosse Scheidegg, the puzzle is solved: the Eiger from a different perspective than the trio with Mönch and Jungfrau. Right of the Eiger, the Kleine Scheidegg and the Männlichen can be seen. At Scheidegg Oberläger, turn left to the Grosse Scheidegg, which you reach on a paved road. The proximity to the tourist resort Grindelwald is also evident as this area is more frequently visited. At the Grosse Scheidegg, the descent via Alpiglen to Schwarzwaldalp is started. It mostly runs on paths through meadows and forest, along streams, and short sections on or next to the road with hard surface. Particular caution is advised when crossing the road, as many cyclists enjoy the rapid descent.
