Description

Right at the beginning of the hike at the Belpmoos airfield, information boards show the diversity of fauna and flora in the Giesse area. After a short walking time, the route crosses the Auguet Bridge. This wooden bridge, built in 1836, stood until 1974 near Hunziken, 4.5 km upriver. After crossing the bridge, the hiking trail turns south. Along the Aare, it follows a path full of roots. Then follows the first short climb to Hinter-Märchligen, from where you enjoy a magnificent view of the Längenberg, the Gurten, and the Jura chain. At Vorder-Märchligen, the motorway is crossed underneath, past the “Jumbo” it continues through the Hüenliwald. At a crossroads (with signpost) an unmarked natural path leads left away from the hiking trail. It continues uphill to the highest point, where once the Frumburg, a large fortification, stood. On the Reinhardt map of 1729, the castle is marked as a “volcanic cone.” Today, a fire pit (not prehistoric) and two ditches can still be seen. The path continues downhill past a water reservoir back onto the hiking trail. The Bern-Thun railway line is crossed – the Bern-Lucerne line is passed underneath. After a short piece on the road, the path goes back into the forest to point 566. After the turnoff towards Rüfenacht (signpost), an unmarked trail turns right into Vielbringenmoos. Along the Steckibach, information boards explain the various ecosystems. Wild apple and pear trees invite to taste. Caution, on the short descent along the road towards Rubigen do not miss the signpost! A small wooden bridge crosses the Schwarzbach. Leaving the forest, you can admire the Bernese Oberland again with Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The 750-year-old Aare valley village Rubigen is in sight. A short piece of path leads to the station with a bistro. An enjoyable hike with many impressions and wonderful viewpoints.
