Description
The first tentative deep view occurs shortly after Ilanz at the suspension bridge over the Rhine. It is essentially an introduction to the deep views to come. Then it’s on to the sunny side and later back down to the roaring Vorderrhein in Valendas. From Valendas-Sagogn station to the village of Valendas, it’s initially pedaling uphill. A short detour to the hidden viewing platform Alix – watch out for the deep drop – then on via side roads and real insider trails to Versam and further into the Versamer gorge. Another deep view. The gorge bridge, used for normal road traffic just a few years ago(!), offers you a brilliant view into the Rabiusbach, which gently flows out of the Safien valley.
Hardly pedaling yet, we guide you to another highlight of the route: of course, another deep view! However, you must climb this point on foot from the small blockhouse. The few meters are definitely worth it. On the onward journey, you can briefly climb onto a small platform beside the road again before entering the Bonaduzer Forest. On the short section down to the large suspension bridge – warning deep view – at Trin station, you will find a bike ban. This makes sense because it is very steep here and there are often many hikers on the trail.
Up to the well-known viewing platform «il Spir» in Conn – the next deep view – you can test your form and pedal about 400 meters uphill on side and gravel roads. Take your time and enjoy the approximately 350 meter deep view into the Rhine Gorge – the "Grand Canyon of Switzerland". Only about 100 meters of altitude remain to Laax Staderas before it is mostly downhill with small exceptions. Via the village of Sagogn, you return to Ilanz.
