Description
From Aesch station, first follow the hiking trail into the village centre of Aesch, where the signposted vineyard route (white signposts) begins. It leads westward into the Klus area, with its vineyards on the south slope of the last folded Jura range. The approximately 20 ha of vines on protected sites on the shallow-calcareous soil produce various award-winning wines. After climbing through the vineyards and a short section in the forest, the view opens to the north over the gentle hills between the Birs valley and the Leimental. The name "Leimen" already reveals it: here the heavy, clayey soils with a loess cover dominate, which are well suited for arable farming on large fields. In clear weather, the view extends to the Vosges and the heights of the Black Forest.
The vineyard route leads northwards to the vineyards on Ettingen Vorderberg, where weary hikers can connect to public transport in Ettingen. However, the vineyard route continues further to the small vineyard area of the municipality of Therwil at Hollenrain and then ends at the connecting road Therwil – Reinach. From there it is only a few hundred meters to the "Chäppeli" stop of bus lines 62 and 64, with which you can reach Dornach-Arlesheim station.
If desired, the hike can be continued on the yellow-marked hiking trails via Bruderholz to Basel (+ 2 hours).
